APACHA and CWS
HIV/AIDS global goals cannot be met without removing stigma and discrimination, the focus of World AIDS Campaign 2002-2003. The campaign tries to encourage people to break the silence and barriers to provide effective HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Stigma and discrimination can be observed in various settings including the Internet.
CWS Indonesia is committed to reduce the impact of digital inequity in public health through information, capacity building and education. The inequity in Internet resources has far reaching implications. Many commentators and communication researchers have noted that the consequences of digital divide- the division between those who have access to Internet resources and those who don?t have access - will be much worse than many other health inequities already existing. The production of this web site guide on HIV/AIDS for Asia-Pacific Region is in line with our commitment.
The first version of the web site guide was released in 2003, both in print and web version. The 2003 guide has been compiled with the help of a large number of HIV/AIDS activists, researchers and people living with HIV/AIDS. Our request for information on web pages ? posted on various HIV/AIDS related discussion forums in this region was well received and we would like to thank all of them.
In the end of 2004, CWS Indonesia conducted a review on all HIV/AIDS related web sites in Asia-Pacific and added a sectoral division based on the wishes of our local NGO partner organizations in Indonesia. In line with the dynamism of the Internet itself, this guide is a growing result of our work, thus changes and comments are welcome.
CWS Indonesia will launch the second edition of the Asia Pacific HIV/AIDS Web site guide (online version only) during the upcoming 7th ICAAP (7th International Congress on AIDS in Asia Pacific) which will be held in Kobe from 1-5 July.
The second edition of the Asia Pacific HIV/AIDS Web site guide will be launched during an Internet Mediated Communication workshop facilitated by CWS Indonesia together with ICHE, APPACHA and AFXB on Saturday, July 2nd, 2005 at 14:30 - 18:00 local time, Room 503, International Conference Center, Kobe.
